March Meeting: Community Open House

PBTC’s March meeting — Wednesday, March 15 — will be an opportunity to find out about what our community has to offer.  This Community Open House presents the chance to hear from community groups, ask questions, and voice concerns.  The meeting takes place at 6:30 at the Crown Point Jr. Music Academy.

Pacific Beach Spring Cleaning Event – March 4

The Pacific Beach Homelessness Coalition, in collaboration with volunteers in the Pacific Beach community, invites you to a neighborhood cleanup and lunch at Saturday, March 4, from 10am to noon.

The event will highlight the work of the Pacific Beach Street Guardians. (If you’re not familiar with that group, watch this KUSI report.)

Clean & Safe Program Debuts in Pacific Beach

The PB Business District is implementing a Clean & Safe program covering areas including the boardwalk near Crystal Pier, Garnet to Ingraham, and parts of Felspar and Hornblend.

The Clean & Safe program is made up of a Maintenance Team and Safety Ambassadors.

The Safety Ambassadors, who work for a security company, will serve to complement the San Diego Police Department. They will help visitors with information and provide social outreach referrals for homeless. A program of this kind is already being used in Downtown San Diego.

The non-profit Pacific Beach Street Guardians will be maintaining the streets, sidewalks and alleys in the business district. The Street Guardians are made up of homeless men and women who have been thoroughly screened, and want to work to better their situation.

Sea World To Present On Proposed New Coaster

On Wednesday, February 8, 6:00pm, SeaWorld will do a presentation on the Electric Eel Roller Coaster to the Mission Bay Park Committee. Location of meeting: Santa Clara Recreation Center, Mission Beach.

Presented by SeaWorld President, Marilyn Hannes, Phases I and II of Ocean Explorer will be reviewed and a vote of approval will be asked of the MBPC.

The community is welcome and encouraged to attend. SeaWorld staff will be available before and after the meeting to answer questions.

February Meeting Features Capt. Jerry Hara

The February monthly meeting of PBTC will include an update on police dispatch and communications from Captain Jerry Hara, Commanding Officer of the Communications Division of the San Diego Police Department.

The meeting takes place on Wednesday, February 15 at 6:30 at the Crown Point Jr. Music Academy.

Sign a Petition to Protect San Diego Waters

On January 6th, Councilmembers Lorie Zapf and Barbara Bry signed a letter that was sent to President Barack Obama urging him, before he leaves office, to permanently protect San Diego waters from any new oil and gas leasing development. They are encouraging all San Diego residents to sign an online petition as well as to share it with others.  They believe the health of our ocean’s waters and coastline are critical to the health and wellness of San Diego.

Dog Park Improvement Is Focus of January Meeting

Improvements to the Capehart Dog Park on Soledad Mountain Road will be the featured topic of discussion at the Pacific Beach Town Council’s January monthly meeting. Ron McChesney will be the speaker.

The meeting will take place at 6:30 pm on Wednesday, January 18 at the Crown Point Jr Music Academy on Ingraham Street.

Your Donations Are Needed to Support Capehart Off-Leash Dog Park

The Pacific Beach Town Council is now joined with and sponsoring the “Friends of the Capehart Dog Park”, a group of local individuals and companies who are working with the City Parks and Recreation Department to maintain and improve Capehart Dog Park on Soledad Mountain Road.

Apply Now for the Dan Froelich Youth Award

This award was initiated by the Pacific Beach Town Council in 1990 in recognition of Dan Froelich, a former student at Mission Bay High School. Dan began volunteering with the Town Council at the age of eleven, setting a standard for volunteering and community service that the PBTC wants reward by to recognizing students involved in Pacific Beach.

The PBTC is looking for an 8th Grader from Pacific Beach Middle School and a Senior from Mission Bay High School who have given their time to community and school service. There will be a cash “Award of Merit” in the amount of $500.00 and $1,000 given to the selected awardees.

2016 Gift-Raiser To Take Place December 14
