Get a De Anza Update at the June 29th Open House

The City’s De Anza Revitalization Plan project team will hold the next Ad-Hoc Subcommittee Meeting on Thursday, June 29, from 6-8:00 pm at Mission Bay High School.

The project team will present refined draft concept alternatives for the De Anza Revitalization Plan for the discussion of the Ad-Hoc Subcommittee. An Open House will follow the Ad-Hoc Subcommittee meeting to allow the public to review the alternatives in detail, ask questions, and provide feedback to the project team on uses, design, and potential refinements.

Police Chief Educates PBTC About New Drug Testing

Police Chief Shelley Zimmerman gave attendees at the May PBTC meeting a firsthand look at the Drager Drug Test 5000 (pictured), a portable mouth-swab device that provides a new way to confirm the presence of seven drugs including marijuana, cocaine, opiates, amphetamines, and more.

Concerns about impaired driving have increased since the passing of November’s Proposition 64, or the Adult Use of Marijuana Act, which legalized certain aspects of marijuana usage.  For a TV news report on Chief Zimmerman’s presentation, please click here.

June 21st: Short-Term Vacation Rental Update

PBTC’s June monthly meeting will feature an update from Save San Diego Neighborhoods on the latest developments at City Hall on short-term vacation rentals, and how you can make a difference.

The meeting takes place on Wednesday, June 21 at 6:30 pm at Crown Point Jr. Music Academy.  As at every monthly meeting, representatives from Police, Fire, Lifeguards, elected officials and community organization will be available for questions.

Save Your Tuesday Evenings for a Fun New Event

Starting June 6, there will be a Community Meet-Up every Tuesday evening from 5-7 pm at the PB Library Park.

Bring your family, friends and neighbors! Bring your dinner, munchies, leashed dogs, lawn chairs, etc. for a fun time socializing and getting to know others in your community. Your kids can enjoy the Tot Playground. This weekly event is a great way for the community to reclaim and enjoy the beautiful Library grounds. (Please note: No food/drinks provided; no alcohol allowed in the park.)

ZLAC To Host 125th Anniversary Dinner

ZLAC Rowing Club’s 125th Anniversary Dinner will take place at the club on Sunday, May 21 at 6pm.

PBTC Helps CPJMA Celebrate Arbor Day

Crown Point Junior Music Academy celebrated Arbor Day, April 27th, by planting new trees at the school. The City donated the trees, Urban Corp. transferred the trees to the school and dug holes, and CPJMA will be responsible for watering and maintenance.

San City City Councilmember Lorie Zapf presented the trees to the school.

Pacific Beach Town Council Board members Denny Friedman and Marcella Bothwell were in attendance, and Marcella Teran represented the PB Neighborhood Watch.

Zimmerman to Speak About Driver Drug Testing

At the May monthly meeting of the Pacific Beach Town Council, SD Police Chief Shelley Zimmerman will speak on the police use of the Dräger Drug Test 5000.  If you’re concerned about drivers being impaired by the use of marijuana or other recreational drugs, come hear Chief Zimmerman speak about how the use of this machine will keep San Diego drivers safer.

The meeting will take place at 6:30pm on Wednesday, May 17 at Crown Point Jr. Music Academy.

April Meeting: Pacific Beach Street Guardians

Who are the Pacific Beach Street Guardians and how are they making our community better?

Caryn Blanton, Director of PBSG, will be the featured speaker at the April meeting of the Town Council.  She’ll be talking about this local program to help homeless people change their lives, while making positive changes in our community.

The meeting will take place at 6:30 pm on Wednesday, April 19, at Crown Point Jr Music Academy.

Donations Needed for PB Library Rummage Sale

PB Friends of the Library will hold a Rummage Sale on the weekend of May 6-7, and donations can be dropped off at the Library the previous week, May 1-5.  All sale proceeds benefit the PB Library.

Donate your antiques, collectibles, bric-a-brac, glassware, kitchenware, art, decorative items, games, sports equipment, vacuums, electronics, small furniture, etc.  (No clothing or furniture, please.)

ReWild Mission Bay Update: Last Chance For Input

Public workshop #4 will take place from 4-7 pm on Tuesday, April 25, at the Mission Bay High School cafeteria.  It’s the last meeting before wetland alternatives are finalized. The draft final plans will be released on that day.
